spiked apple cider spritzer

The Spiked Cider Spritzer [cocktail]

With the cool, crisp weather rapidly approaching, I figured, what better time to experiment with some new Fall cocktails! I mixed around a few different things the other night and came up with something truly amazing.  I mean, deliciously, mind blowing amazing (even the guys loved this one!)Before I started mixing, I knew I wanted a cocktail with a spicy apple flavor, yet light and freshening at the same time. I decided to use a base of champagne (or really any sparkling wine) and doctor it up with some apple liquor and spices…and then of course, fresh sliced apple! I ended up with a crisp, delightful Fall cocktail I’ve named The Spiked Cider Spritzer…

Just in time for the weekend too ;)

The Spiked Cider Spritzer [cocktail]

Serves 4 (for myself however, it only served 2 ;) )

one bottle of champagne (or sparkling wine)

8 oz. Dr. McGillicuddy’s Apple Pie Schnappes

1/4 tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp nutmeg

one apple cut into thin slices

Pour champagne and apple schnappes into a tall pitcher, add cinnamon and nutmeg.  Top with freshly sliced apples, chill for one hour.

Serve chilled (over ice if you prefer).

cucumber mango skinny margarita

Skinny Cucumber Mango Margarita [skinny cocktail]

It’s too bad I didn’t come up with this recipe before Cinco de Mayo, but you know what they say…anything worth having is worth waiting for, and this skinny margarita recipe was definitely worth waiting for.   I love me a good, fresh margarita.  The problem is that good margaritas are hard to come by, lots of bars use cheap tequila and sugary, calorie packed sour mix.  Drink those and you’ll end up with nothing but a guilty conscience and a gauranteed hangover.  Today’s skinny margarita recipe is everything but that, it combines fresh ingredients with my absolute favorite Bai mango juice for a taste that’s SO GOOD you won’t believe it’s SKINNY too!

4 oz. 100% blue agave tequila

6 oz. Bai Malawi Mango Juice (can substitute for regular mango juice, but this serving of Bai has less than 5 calories!)

1 tbsp fresh lime juice

3 tbsp. diced cucumber

soda water

crushed ice

In a cocktail shaker, add 1 cup crushed ice, tequila, Bai mango juice, lime juice and diced cucumber, shake vigorously for 30 seconds.  Split into two glasses (including crushed ice), then top each drink off with a splash of soda water.  Garnish with a fresh cucumber wedge and enjoy!

Funky Frosted Wine Glasses [DIY]

There’s nothing I love more than mixing up a nice refreshing skinny cocktail on a Saturday afternoon. The best part about experimenting with unique drink combinations is enjoying the end result in a fancy, fun cocktail glass… Because sometimes the glass you sip from is just as important as the drink itself! I fell in love with a pair of frosted cocktail glasses I came across the other day, so I decided I had to make some for myself using a couple old boring wine glasses I had at home!  diy-frosted wine glasses

DIY Frosted Wine Glasses

step 1

Start with two glasses of your choice, I chose to use bubble base wine glasses (which I LOVE drinking cocktails from =) ).  Next, you’ll need a small bottle of Deco Art’s Frost Gloss Enamel paint, along with two colors of Deco Art’s Gloss Enamel paint and of course, a small tipped paint brush.

diy-frosted wine glasses-5

  step 2

Use a small tipped paint brush to create a design around the rim of your glass.  My artist skills are extreamly limited so I painted a simple zig-zag pattern ;)  Next, I painted the stem of my wine glass in the same color.

diy-frosted wine glasses-4

diy-frosted wine glasses-3

step 3

Now that you’ve added a little color and funky design to your glasses, it’s time to frost them!  Creating frosted glass is super simple with Deco Art’s Frost Gloss Enamel paints.  Simply fill in all the areas you’d like to frost with a light coat of paint.  I chose to frost the base and body of my glass…

diy-frosted wine glasses-2

The only area I didn’t frost was the rim above the painted zig-zag…

Once you’ve got your cocktail glasses looking good, go ahead and bake them in the oven at 275 degrees for 30 minutes.  This will make the finish dishwasher safe!

the skinny dirty monkey freeze

The Skinny Dirty Monkey Freeze {drink recipe}

You might remember the recent (heavenly) Dirty Monkey Cookie recipe I shared, well in that post I shared the story of how my love of everything banana & chocolate came about…I first discovered the Dirty Monkey frozen rum drink while on a vacation in the Dominican Republic years ago, it’s been a staple for me on hot summer days ever since!  The delicious frozen chocolate banana drink inspired me to create the cookie, and now I’ve taken it one step further…I’ve concocted a SKINNY version of my favorite frozen tropical drink.  Enter The Skinny Dirty Monkey Freeze

The Skinny Dirty Monkey Freeze (serves 2)

one serving is less than 150 calories!

Gather Up:

one banana

3 oz. spiced rum (I used Captain Morgan)

2 T skim milk

1 packet of Stevia sweetener

1 tsp cocoa powder

1 T Greek vanilla yogurt (optional, makes it creamier, yum)

1.5 – 2 cups of ice

a dash of granola to garnish the top

Throw all of the ingredients inside a blender and GRIND!  The finished product should look something like this…

Such an amazing treat =)

The Skinny Spiked Sangria {Recipe}

Sangria’s are great, they are essentially the “kitchen sink” of cocktails.  They make marvelous party drinks since you can make them in large batches and there are endless sangria variations and possibilities.  Red sangria {my favorite} is the most common, though I’ve had some great white sangria recipes too.  Over the years, I’d like to say that I’ve come pretty close to perfection with the simple red sangria recipe I’m about to share with you.  Not only is this drink delectable, but of course, it’s SKINNY too {well just about at “skinny” as sangria can be!}.   Here it is, the Skinny Spiked Sangria Recipe…  Oh, and be sure to use a BIG pitcher for this sangria recipe, it makes a lot!

Gather up:

1 750 ml bottle of red wine {I like to use Carlo Rossi, Merlot}

6 oz. Three Olives Rangtang Vodka

6 oz. Three Olives Cherry Vodka

1 can of Sprite Zero

8 oz. V8 Splash, Diet Berry Blend

4 oz. fresh squeezed orange juice

2 granny smith apples, cut into wedges

1 blood orange, cut into wedges

1/2 cup of white grapes, cut in half

Blend all ingredients in a large pitcher, keep refridgerated.  Store up to 24 until used.  Serve over ice.
