Hallelujah! The sun is finally shining over tiny Rhode Island & the warm weather has arrived!  Bring on the beach, celebrations & summer festivities!  We kicked off the warm weather yesterday with our first summer celebration, my little sister’s wedding shower!  As the maid of honor, I hosted the shower in our back yard.  It was a wonderful day filled with lots of sun, family, and of course good food (& drinks!).  I’ll be sharing lots more wedding shower details & DIY’s soon, but one of the first DIY projects I took on for the shower was this fun & festive fabric scrap banner!  Here’s how I made it…

MATERIALS

METHOD

Pull together fab a colorful assortment of fabric scraps…I had an abundance…

Cut the fabric pieces into approx. 1″ x 8-10″ strips (varying lengths is fun). Keep cutting, and cutting, and cutting more…you’ll need lots of strips (amount depends on how long your banner will be).

Once you’ve cut your strips, begin tying them to a precut string.  This is a long process, hence the optional cocktail above!

After you’ve tied all of the strips to your string push them into each other so that they are tightly packed along the string.

Hang up the fabric scrap banner & enjoy!  I hung mine above our champagne bar at the shower!

The banner added so much festive flair & it was definitely a topic of conversation (even though my husband thought it looked like it belonged at a Mt. Everest base camp…) !
