You might remember the very yummy Lemon Poppy Seed Ombre Cake I made for a recent surprise birthday party (you can catch a glimpse of it in the photo below 🙂 ). Of course, no birthday party is complete without a fabulous birthday cake, but we can’t forget about the other basic party essential…the party hat! You can pick up a simple party hat at any party store, but why when you can create a unique DIY party hat minutes!?
The 5 Minute Essential Party Hat
MATERIALS
- one piece of 8.5 x 11 cardstock
- shredded paper
- tissue paper
- large rubber band
- assorted paint colors
- hot glue
METHOD
Roll the cardstock into a cone shape and secure with a dab of hot glue. The base of the hat may be slightly uneven, simply trim off access paper to even out the base.
Cut a large rubber band in half and use the hot glue to attach it to the inside of the hat. You can use string just as well if you can’t find a large enough rubber band.
Use the hot glue to attached several bunched of shredded paper to the inside rim of the hat.
I ended up finding some colored shredded paper, so I attached that along with the white paper…
Now it’s time to make a pom pom for the top of the hat using tissue paper! Cut a small bunch of tissue paper into 2″ x 4″ strips…
Secure the center using a twisty tie or a rubber band.
Pull up the sides of the paper to create the pom pom!
You can really tap into your creativity for this next part! Decorate the hat using craft paints, I chose a polka dot pattern for my hat!
There you have it! Your 5 Minute Essential Party Hat!
No birthday party is complete without a proper party hat!
